Girona is also a renowned culinary destination. Home of exquisite “sea and mountain mixed” recipes, the region hosts “El Bulli” and “El Celler de Can Roca”, ranked second and fourth best restaurants in the world. A part of those, two other 3-Star Michelin restaurants, “El Celler de Can Fabes” and “Santa Pau” are less than one hour driving from the property.
Girona has one of the most important mediaeval quarters in Spain, plenty of beautiful historical buildings, one of the best-preserved old Jewish quarters in Europe and a magnificent Cathedral featuring the widest Gothic nave in the world with a width of 22 meters.
Girona is well known for its cultural offer. A part of its several museums, the city has the most important autumn festival in Spain, “Temporada Alta”, offering three months of avant-garde international music, dance and theater plays. A part from that, several jazz, classical, rock, flamenco, traditional or world music concerts are programmed during all the year.
Furthermore, the relatively small size of the city and its urban structure allows making all these activities without having to take the car.
Girona is well known by professional and amateur golfers. At only 22 kilometres is the PGA Catalunya Resort, which since the opening celebration in 1999 has quickly gained an impeccable international reputation and is currently ranked 2nd in Spain, 3rd in continental Europe and, most recently, among the 100 best golf courses in the world. A part from this one, eight other 18-hole quality golf courses are available less than one hour driving from the property.
Girona is also a world famous destination for professional and amateur cyclists. Lance Armstrong lived and trained in Girona when he won its seven consecutive Tour de France. Only a few minutes from the property there is also a vast forest with hundreds of signalized off road mountain-bike routes through which you can reach the coast.
Less than one hour driving from the property you can reach the famous Costa Brava coastal region, plenty of beaches and sailing ports, still offering some "hidden gems" for selected visitors. Small villages like Cadaqués, Begur or LLafranc have attracted artists such as Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró or Pablo Picasso and still inspire many contemporary artists.
Between Girona and the Costa Brava is the Empordà a country side region, plenty of small charming medieval villages, wheat and sunflower fields that are filled with poppies in spring, creating one of the most beautiful landscapes of Spain.
During wintertime, a good option is also taking profit of some of the several Pyrenees ski resorts that can be reached less than two hour driving from the property. Girona and its surroundings is also a well-know wellness and spa destination, offering first quality thermal baths, spa and wellness centres.
Last but not least, the city of Barcelona is only at one-hour drive or by train from Girona.
